Bay Area Landlord Accused of Luring Tenant Outside Before Fatal Shooting, Prosecutors Say
San Francisco, CA – May 29 — A 68-year-old San Francisco landlord is accused of carrying out a planned, execution-style killing of his tenant after allegedly luring the victim from his home in the city’s Sunset District, according to prosecutors. Authorities identified the suspect as Philippe Chagniot and the victim as 58-year-old Eric Bigone. The fatal shooting occurred during the early morning hours of May 17. According to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office and the San Francisco Police Department, investigators believe Chagniot carefully planned the attack in advance. Prosecutors allege that the suspect spray-painted nearby surveillance cameras to obstruct their view before setting a fire outside Bigone’s residence. Authorities contend the fire was intended to draw the tenant outside, where he was then shot and killed. Investigators said evidence gathered during the case ultimately led to Chagniot’s arrest despite the alleged efforts to conceal the crime. Officials have not publicly disclosed a motive for the killing.
