Driver Killed After Crashing into Rear of USPS Trailer Causing Fire on NB 15 Freeway South of SR 76 in Fallbrook
Fallbrook, CA – May 20, 2025 – A fatal crash occurred early Tuesday morning when a driver slammed into the rear of a USPS trailer on the northbound 15 Freeway just south of State Route 76, resulting in a vehicle fire, according to the California Highway Patrol. The collision was reported at approximately 2:49 a.m. CHP dispatchers received multiple 911 calls about a vehicle that had collided with a semi-truck and had become lodged underneath the trailer. Additional callers reported the vehicle was on fire. Emergency crews, including the North County Fire Protection District and CHP officers, arrived on the scene to find a vehicle fully engulfed in flames beneath the rear of a USPS semi-trailer. Firefighters quickly worked to extinguish the blaze, but tragically, the driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased pending notification of the next of kin.CHP investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash. It remains unclear whether speed, impairment, or fatigue may have played a role in the incident.
