Man Killed, 3 Injured in Head-On Crash near Stockton on SR-4

Stockton, CA, May 16 – A 38-year-old Stockton man was killed and three other people were injured Saturday afternoon in a head-on collision on State Route 4 near Stockton, according to the California Highway Patrol. Authorities said the crash occurred at approximately 12:17 p.m. on State Route 4, west of John Turk Road. Investigators reported that a Kia sedan traveling eastbound crossed over lane delineators and entered the westbound lane for reasons that remain unclear. A westbound Tesla, driven by a 51-year-old man, attempted to avoid the oncoming Kia by veering left. However, the Kia reportedly swerved back to the right, and the two vehicles collided head-on. The force of the impact caused the Kia to become airborne before it landed in a drainage ditch south of the roadway. The Kia driver was found unconscious and trapped inside the vehicle. Stockton firefighters extricated the man and performed life-saving measures before he was transported to San Joaquin General Hospital. He was pronounced dead at approximately 1:21 p.m. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

Man Killed, 3 Injured in Head-On Crash near Stockton on SR-4

A deadly head-on collision near Stockton left one man dead and three others injured Saturday afternoon on State Route 4 near John Turk Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at about 12:17 p.m. when a Kia sedan traveling eastbound crossed into the westbound lane and collided with a Tesla Model X traveling in the opposite direction. The Kia driver, described as a 38-year-old Stockton man, was taken to San Joaquin General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The Tesla driver and two juvenile passengers sustained moderate injuries, though reports indicate they declined medical treatment at the scene and were taken away by family members.

Authorities reported that the Tesla driver attempted to avoid the Kia after it entered the westbound lane, but the vehicles ultimately collided head-on. The impact caused the Kia to go airborne and land in a drainage ditch south of the highway. Emergency responders had to extricate the Kia driver before transporting him for medical care. The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash, including why the Kia entered opposing traffic.

Head-on crashes are among the most dangerous types of roadway collisions because both vehicles often absorb severe force from opposite directions. Victims may suffer catastrophic injuries, including traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord trauma, fractures, internal injuries, and long-term emotional distress. For surviving passengers and families of deceased victims, the aftermath can involve medical expenses, funeral costs, lost income, insurance disputes, and difficult questions about liability.
