Man Killed, 3 Injured in Head-On Crash near Stockton on SR-4
Stockton, CA, May 16 – A 38-year-old Stockton man was killed and three other people were injured Saturday afternoon in a head-on collision on State Route 4 near Stockton, according to the California Highway Patrol. Authorities said the crash occurred at approximately 12:17 p.m. on State Route 4, west of John Turk Road. Investigators reported that a Kia sedan traveling eastbound crossed over lane delineators and entered the westbound lane for reasons that remain unclear. A westbound Tesla, driven by a 51-year-old man, attempted to avoid the oncoming Kia by veering left. However, the Kia reportedly swerved back to the right, and the two vehicles collided head-on. The force of the impact caused the Kia to become airborne before it landed in a drainage ditch south of the roadway. The Kia driver was found unconscious and trapped inside the vehicle. Stockton firefighters extricated the man and performed life-saving measures before he was transported to San Joaquin General Hospital. He was pronounced dead at approximately 1:21 p.m. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
