Motorcyclist Killed in Crash on Empire Grade
A tragic motorcycle accident in Santa Cruz County has claimed the life of a young rider following a collision on Empire Grade near the University of California, Santa Cruz campus. According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 4:45 p.m. north of Heller Drive.
Investigators reported that a 21-year-old man from Pescadero was riding a 1999 Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on Empire Grade when he collided with a southbound 2025 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck towing a flatbed trailer. The impact caused catastrophic injuries to the motorcyclist.
Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene, and the rider was airlifted to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas for emergency treatment. Despite lifesaving efforts, authorities confirmed that the motorcyclist later died from his injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was reportedly unharmed.
Officials stated that the cause of the crash remains under investigation, and it has not yet been determined whether speed, alcohol, or drugs were factors. Authorities also noted that the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
