Bakersfield, CA, July 27, 2025 – A 35‑year‑old man has died following a suspected DUI head‑on collision early Sunday morning in Bakersfield. According to the Kern County Coroner’s Office, the victim has been identified as Salvador Gallegos Jr., a Bakersfield resident. Authorities reported the crash happened around 12:30 a.m. in the 7900 block of Fairfax Road, when 40‑year‑old Juan Rangel was driving a pickup truck southbound on Fairfax. Investigators say Rangel’s vehicle drifted into the northbound lane and collided head‑on with Gallegos Jr.’s silver car. Sadly, Gallegos Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. Rangel sustained minor injuries and was later arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI. He has been booked into the Lerdo Jail.
