Authorities say the attack occurred around 1:01 a.m. at a residence in the 1100 block of East Fir Street. Multiple 911 calls were made reporting a woman screaming for help and being repeatedly struck by a suspect wielding a large butcher knife. The graphic nature of the attack led to an urgent response by Seattle Police, who requested assistance from multiple precincts due to other ongoing emergencies. Responding officers established a perimeter and began searching the area for both the victim and the suspect. A short time later, the woman was found with multiple lacerations to the head and other serious injuries. She was transported to Harborview Medical Center for emergency treatment. In a disturbing detail, investigators reported finding a trail of bloody footprints believed to have been left by the suspect as he fled the scene. While police expected the suspect to appear at a local hospital due to potential self-inflicted injuries, he had not yet surfaced as of 2:00 a.m.
