June 29, 2025, Bakersfield, CA, A Wasco man died early Sunday morning after crashing his vehicle into a power pole northeast of Shafter, according to the Kern County Coroner’s Office. The fatal accident occurred at approximately 2:54 a.m. on June 29 on Kimberlina Road, just west of Wallace Road. Authorities said 34-year-old Cristhian Francisco Leon Covarrubias was driving a 2006 Nissan Maxima eastbound on Kimberlina Road when, for reasons still under investigation, he veered off the roadway and struck a power pole. Covarrubias was ejected from the vehicle upon impact and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:51 a.m.
