Driver Killed by Amtrak Train in Modesto at State Route 132 and Santa Fe Avenue
Modesto, CA, June 9, 2025 – A tragic collision involving an SUV and an Amtrak train claimed the life of one person Monday afternoon in Modesto. The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene shortly after 1:30 p.m. on June 9 at State Route 132 just west of Santa Fe Avenue. According to authorities, a Chevrolet SUV driver attempted to go around the lowered railroad crossing arms when the vehicle was struck by an oncoming Amtrak train on the driver’s side. The force of the collision caused the SUV to catch fire. Despite emergency efforts, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger on the train sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
