Falling Tree Traps Children and Elderly Woman on Lake Gregory Drive in Crestline
Crestline, CA – February 16 – Several children, an elderly woman, and other occupants narrowly escaped serious injury after a massive Douglas fir tree collapsed onto Lake Gregory Drive at Bergschrund in Crestline. Authorities said the tree fell during powerful winds sweeping through the San Bernardino Mountains. It narrowly missed a vehicle carrying children, but the driver was unable to avoid the falling tree and collided with it, causing the vehicle to become pinned beneath branches and downed power lines. The impact is believed to have prevented more severe consequences . Firefighters, Southern California Edison crews, and law enforcement officers responded to the scene and worked to remove debris and live power lines, safely freeing those trapped inside. All occupants were successfully rescued and were able to exit the vehicle.
