MILPITAS, CA – July 3, 2025 – A woman was arrested in Milpitas after allegedly making a false report that her 9-year-old son was missing, according to local police. Milpitas Police Department responded to a missing child call earlier this week, launching an immediate search operation. Officers canvassed the neighborhood, issued alerts, and mobilized resources out of concern for the child’s safety. However, during the investigation, inconsistencies in the mother’s account led officers to determine that the child was never missing. Authorities say the mother, whose identity has not yet been released, fabricated the report. Investigators did not publicly disclose her motive, but confirmed that the child was safe and unharmed. He was located with family members and placed in protective custody while social services evaluated the situation.
In a concerning incident on July 3, 2025, Milpitas Police were mobilized to search for a 9‑year‑old boy last seen near Montague Expressway. The alarm prompted an extensive search involving law enforcement, the Santa Clara County Search & Rescue team, and numerous volunteers. However, investigators later discovered the child had never left home, and his mother, 46‑year‑old Rohnita Prasad, had concealed him and filed a false missing-person report. Prasad has been arrested on suspicion of child endangerment, intimidating or dissuading a witness, and filing a false police report, and the Santa Clara County Department of Family and Children Services is now assisting with the child’s care
