Passenger Arrested After I-580 Chase, Driver Escapes in Oakland
Oakland, CA – November 24, 2024 – A high-speed chase on I-580 ended early Friday morning with the arrest of a passenger, while the driver managed to escape, authorities reported. The incident unfolded around 1:19 a.m. when a Honda Odyssey, traveling east near Harrison Street, was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) for driving without rear lights. After briefly stopping, the driver accelerated away, initiating a pursuit monitored by a CHP helicopter. During the chase, the passenger discarded a loaded Glock handgun, which was later recovered by officers. The vehicle eventually came to a halt near Seminary Avenue and Monadnock Way. Both the driver and passenger fled on foot, but the passenger was apprehended. He now faces charges including resisting arrest and firearms violations. The driver remains at large.
