Auburn, WA, June 26, 2025 – A tragic freeway shooting claimed the life of a driver on Wednesday evening when a silver Toyota Prius was struck by gunfire and ran off the road on northbound State Route 167 near Ellingson Road. According to initial reports from law enforcement and 911 dispatch records, the Prius was traveling northbound around 7:38 p.m. when it was allegedly shot at multiple times by suspects in two vehicles—a 1990s-era Ford Explorer and a possible Subaru. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and the identities of the suspects have not been confirmed. A witness who called 911 reported seeing the Prius veer off the road and crash after the shots were fired. First responders arrived shortly afterward and discovered the vehicle had stopped off the roadway. The male driver was found unconscious inside the car with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Washington State Patrol and local law enforcement agencies are leading the investigation. The roadway was partially shut down for several hours as detectives processed the scene and collected evidence. Authorities have not yet released the name of the victim, pending family notification.
