Bakersfield, CA, July 28, 2025 – A suspected DUI crash claimed the life of Salvador Gallegos Jr. early Monday morning in Bakersfield. The fatal accident happened around 12:30 a.m. on the 7900 block of Fairfax Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. Authorities reported that 40‑year‑old Juan Rangel was driving under the influence when his vehicle collided with another, fatally injuring Gallegos Jr.Emergency crews arrived quickly, but sadly, Salvador Gallegos Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers arrested Rangel on suspicion of DUI. The crash remains under investigation.
A tragic head-on collision occurred early Sunday morning, July 27, 2025, at approximately 12:35 a.m. on Fairfax Road south of Alfred Harrell Highway in East Bakersfield. According to the Bakersfield Police Department and Coroner’s Office, the victim—identified as 35-year-old Salvador Gallegos Jr. of Bakersfield—was driving a silver sedan when a southbound black pickup truck crossed into his lane and struck him head-on. Emergency responders pronounced Gallegos dead at the scene. The pickup driver, 40-year-old Juan Rangel of Bakersfield, suffered minor injuries and was arrested at the scene on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter after authorities determined alcohol impairment was a factor in the crash
