San Diego, CA – November 29, 2024 – Early on Friday morning, a beachgoer walking at sunrise discovered a capsized boat approximately 100 yards offshore at Marine Street Beach. Responding to the scene, San Diego City Lifeguards identified the vessel as an 18-foot panga boat, with only the tip of the boat visible above the waterline. Several gas cans were found washed up on the beach, typical of vessels used in human smuggling operations coming from Mexico. Lifeguards conducted a search of the area but did not locate any victims. The U.S. Coast Guard will be handling the removal of the gas cans from the beach. The incident remains under investigation.
