San Rafael Pedestrian Suffers Major Injuries in US 101 Off-Ramp Collision
Emergency crews shut down all northbound lanes of US 101 right after the crash so they could set up a traffic break and work the scene. Lanes reopened gradually, and crews later reported that only the right lane and the off-ramp remained blocked as traffic resumed on the rest of the roadway. The closures continued while responders cleared the area of the collision.
The vehicle involved in the collision was described as a silver Honda Civic. It was relocated to a nearby bus pad after the crash and was later towed from the scene so investigators could examine it for evidence, according to the CHP incident log. No further information about the vehicle’s owner or occupant has been released by authorities.
The circumstances that led to the collision remain unconfirmed. CHP has not released information on what the pedestrian or driver were doing immediately before impact, whether speed or impairment played a role, or whether any citations have been issued. Investigators have not said when more details will be made public.
The deadline that applies to a claim like this one
Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1 gives two years for an action for injury to, or for the death of, an individual caused by the wrongful act or neglect of another. The same two years covers an injury claim and a death claim; there is no separate, shorter period because someone died.
