Houston, TX – August 2, 2025 – Two people were killed early Saturday morning when a suspected drunk driver ran a red light and caused a fiery crash in Houston, authorities reported. The deadly incident began around 2:13 a.m. when a Precinct 7 deputy witnessed a black Ford F-150 strike two vehicles in the 2700 block of Smith Street before fleeing southbound at high speed. The driver reportedly ran multiple red lights before reaching the intersection of Elgin and Smith, where he collided with a white Lexus traveling eastbound. The impact caused the Lexus to spin into a building and catch fire. Both occupants of the Lexus were pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies arrested the suspect, a Hispanic male, who showed signs of intoxication, including slurred speech and the smell of alcohol. He is being evaluated for DWI and faces murder charges because the crash occurred during the commission of a felony. A female passenger in the pickup sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized.
