Antioch, CA – April 22, Tuesday, 9:25 p.m. – 50-year-old Victor Vigil tragically lost his life in a head-on collision late Tuesday night while evading police officers in Antioch. Three other people were injured in the wrong-way crash that took place on eastbound Highway 4 at the Highway 160 split. According to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to stop Vigil at approximately 9:20 p.m. near Willow Avenue and E. 18th Street in Antioch. However, Vigil failed to pull over, leading to a pursuit. During the chase, Vigil crossed the center median and began driving against oncoming traffic. Authorities decided to terminate the pursuit due to safety concerns . Minutes later, the California Highway Patrol received reports of a crash involving Vigil’s vehicle. Emergency responders found the wrong-way driver had collided head-on with at least one car, and a pileup involving at least two additional vehicles occurred. Vigil was pronounced dead at the scene, and the three other individuals involved were injured.
