Bakersfield, CA – One Killed in Crash on Taft Highway at Coles Levee Road

On Wednesday, May 31, 2023, a fatal crash occurred on Taft Highway (SR 119) near Coles Levee Road in Bakersfield, California. The incident involved a three-vehicle collision that resulted in the death of 56-year-old Simon Fraire Lamas of Bakersfield. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a 2019 GMC 2500, driven by a 45-year-old man from Taft, was traveling eastbound on Taft Highway when it veered into the westbound lane. The GMC collided with a 2019 Ford F-250 driven by a 46-year-old man from Bakersfield, and then struck a 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 driven by Lamas. Lamas was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other two drivers sustained major injuries and were transported to Kern Medical. Drugs and alcohol were not considered factors in the crash. The CHP’s Buttonwillow Area office is continuing its investigation into the cause of the accident.
