Oildale, CA, May 20, 2025 – Eight people, including five children, were injured — two of them seriously — following a major collision that stemmed from a police pursuit on Tuesday evening, May 20, in Oildale.The California Highway Patrol and Kern County Sheriff’s Office reported that the crash occurred around 7:00 p.m. at the intersection of Manor Street and China Grade Loop. The incident began when the driver of a 2011 Honda Accord unlawfully entered the Lerdo Jail property, bypassed security, and sped away from the facility. The suspect vehicle then headed eastbound on China Grade Loop at a high rate of speed. Authorities say the driver ran a red light at the intersection of Manor Street and violently collided with a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban, which had a green light at the time. Inside the Suburban were two adults and five children, ranging in age from 1 to 10 years old. All seven occupants of the Suburban sustained injuries, while the driver of the Honda Accord was also hurt in the crash. Two of the eight total victims suffered serious injuries, according to emergency responders. The injured were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. The extent of injuries to the children has not yet been fully disclosed.
On Monday night, February 11, 2019, a fatal collision occurred at the intersection of China Grade Loop and Manor Street in Oildale, California. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a Dodge Challenger was traveling eastbound on China Grade Loop at a very high rate of speed when the driver ran a red light at Manor Street and collided with a pickup truck. The impact resulted in the deaths of two passengers in the Challenger. The driver of the pickup, a 33-year-old man from Bakersfield, sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The Kern County Coroner’s Office later identified the deceased as 27-year-old Joshua James Andrews and 32-year-old Lori Sue Soto, both residents of Bakersfield.
