Authorities say the crash occurred around 10:02 a.m. when a driver reportedly ran a red light at high speed and struck a garbage truck. The force of the impact caused the truck to overturn, striking two other vehicles in the process.
The driver who failed to stop at the red light was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Two others sustained injuries and were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening conditions. Investigators with the Bakersfield Police Department believe speed and possible intoxication may have played roles in the crash.
