Atascadero, CA – December 1, 2025 – A 69-year-old woman was struck and killed Monday morning on a Highway 101 off-ramp in Atascadero, according to the California Highway Patrol. The fatal incident occurred shortly after 10 a.m. at the San Anselmo Road off-ramp. CHP officials reported that a driver attempting to turn onto the southbound off-ramp struck a woman who was walking in the crosswalk. The victim was identified as Rachel Hoffman of Atascadero. Emergency personnel pronounced her dead at the scene. The driver, 66-year-old Gary Tipton, remained on-site and cooperated with authorities. Investigators said impairment does not appear to have been a factor in the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
