Whittier, CA (December 12, 2024) – A big rig driver was hospitalized following a crash early Thursday morning on northbound I-605 near State Route 60. The California Highway Patrol reported the collision occurred around 3:18 a.m. when the big rig struck a Caltrans vehicle under unclear circumstances. The big rig caught fire, and approximately 100 gallons of diesel leaked across the traffic lanes. Emergency responders transported the driver to Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center with unspecified injuries. Multiple lanes were closed for an extended period for cleanup and vehicle removal.
