The collision occurred around 2:46 a.m. near the intersection of Almaden Avenue and Virginia Street. Two pedestrians were walking westbound along the edge of Virginia Street when they were struck by a westbound blue Nissan Sentra. The impact caused one pedestrian, a man in a wheelchair, to be pushed into a parked vehicle. He was immediately rushed to a hospital but was pronounced deceased shortly thereafter. The second pedestrian, a woman, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

At approximately 2:45 a.m., a blue Nissan Sentra traveling westbound on Virginia Street struck two pedestrians—72-year-old Richard Evans, who was in a motorized wheelchair, and his companion, Julia Aguilera. The impact propelled Evans into a parked car, resulting in fatal injuries; he was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Aguilera sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene. The driver fled but was apprehended shortly thereafter at his residence. He faces charges including vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence, and felony hit-and-run.
