Killed, 5 Injured in Suspected DUI Crash in Indio
Indio, CA, April 26 – A devastating crash in Indio on Sunday evening left one person dead and five others injured, authorities confirmed. According to the Indio Police Department, the collision occurred at approximately 7:10 p.m. near the intersection of Avenue 44 and Arabia Street. Investigators say a 27-year-old man driving a Toyota Corolla collided head-on with a Honda Accord under circumstances that are still being examined. A male passenger inside the Toyota, whose identity has not been disclosed, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials reported that the driver of the Toyota fled on foot following the crash but was quickly located and taken into custody. He sustained unspecified injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. The driver of the Honda, identified as a 31-year-old man, was also taken by ambulance to a hospital with injuries of unknown severity. Additionally, two passengers in the Honda, a 33-year-old woman and an 8-year-old boy, were initially transported to John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital before being airlifted to Riverside University Health System Medical Center. Authorities have not released details about their conditions. In a separate development, another man was discovered unresponsive near the Toyota and was rushed to a hospital in critical condition. It remains unclear whether he was involved as a passenger or a pedestrian.
