Two Arrested for DUI in Crash Involving Off-Duty Officer on 405 Freeway in Culver City
Culver City, CA, July 18, 2025 – A serious collision involving an off-duty Santa Monica police officer early Friday morning resulted in two separate DUI arrests, according to the California Highway Patrol. The incident occurred around 3:15 a.m. on the southbound 405 Freeway near Howard Hughes Parkway. Authorities say the crash involved a Lexus sedan, driven by a suspected drunk driver, and a cement truck. The impact left the off-duty officer trapped inside their vehicle, requiring extrication by emergency crews using the Jaws of Life. The officer, whose name has not been released, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The cement truck driver was uninjured. While CHP officers were investigating the scene, a security guard drove through the closed-off area and was promptly stopped. After field sobriety testing, the security guard was also arrested for DUI, marking the second DUI arrest at the same scene.
