Fairfax, CA, June 16 – Authorities have identified the pedestrian who was fatally struck by a vehicle Tuesday evening on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard in Fairfax. According to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was George Pikkarainen, 91, of Fairfax. The collision occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m. on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, east of Shadow Creek Court. The California Highway Patrol reported that Pikkarainen was crossing the roadway in a northbound direction when he was struck by a westbound white Volkswagen Passat driven by a 22-year-old man from Martinez. Pikkarainen suffered multiple traumatic injuries in the crash. First responders provided emergency medical aid at the scene, but he was pronounced dead despite life-saving efforts.
