The driver involved in the incident fled the scene without stopping to render aid or contact authorities. Emergency responders arrived and attempted life-saving measures, but Martinez was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. in the 13200 block of Van Nuys Boulevard. Martinez was crossing the intersection near Ralston Avenue when he was struck by a white 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck traveling southbound. The driver fled the scene without rendering aid.
