Oakland, CA — Man Shot and Killed by Police After Allegedly Pointing Gun at Officers
A fatal officer-involved shooting in Oakland is under investigation after a man was shot and killed by officers with the Oakland Police Department on Tuesday afternoon.
According to preliminary statements from authorities, officers responded to reports of an armed individual in the 2000 block of Auseon Avenue at approximately 4 p.m. Police said the man was allegedly pointing a firearm at people in the area before officers arrived at the scene.
Investigators stated that when officers encountered the individual, he allegedly pointed a gun toward responding officers. Officers then discharged their weapons, striking the man. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene, but the individual was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Authorities confirmed that a firearm was recovered at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not yet been publicly released pending notification of family members. No officers were reported injured during the incident.
