Motorcycle Crash Into Semi-Truck Causes Fire and SIG Alert on Westbound Hwy 94 in San Diego
San Diego, CA – May 23, 2025 – A motorcycle collided with the rear of a semi-truck hauling vehicles early Thursday morning on westbound Highway 94, resulting in a fire that destroyed the semi-truck and caused a significant traffic disruption. The crash occurred around 12:29 a.m. near the westbound lanes of Highway 94, also known as SR-15. Sparks from the motorcycle’s impact ignited a fire, which spread rapidly and ultimately destroyed the semi-truck. The motorcycle rider fled the scene on foot immediately after the crash. Authorities have not yet confirmed the rider’s condition or whether any injuries were sustained.Emergency crews declared a SIG Alert due to the severity of the incident, and by 3:30 a.m., only the #1 lane of westbound Highway 94 was open to traffic. The closure is expected to impact morning commuters significantly. The semi-truck driver was not injured in the crash. However, one of the vehicles being transported on the trailer sustained damage due to the fire.
