Teen’s Behavior Before Mosque Shooting Led Police to Seize Family Firearms
San Diego, CA – May 23 — Court records reveal that one of the teenagers accused in this week’s deadly mosque shooting in San Diego had previously come to the attention of law enforcement due to concerning behaviour and extremist interests. According to authorities, the teen, identified as Caleb Vazquez, was the subject of a welfare check last year after reportedly displaying suspicious behaviour involving admiration of Nazis and mass shooters. Investigators stated that officers later obtained a court order on Jan. 29, 2025, allowing the seizure of firearms from the family residence under a California law designed to remove weapons from individuals temporarily considered a danger to themselves or others.
