Two Chula Vista Residents Killed in Fiery Single-Vehicle Crash off Interstate 8 in El Cajon
El Cajon, CA – May 29 — Two Chula Vista residents were killed early Monday morning when their vehicle left Interstate 8, crashed down an embankment, and caught fire in El Cajon, according to the California Highway Patrol. The fatal crash occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. on westbound Interstate 8, west of Second Street. Investigators said a 25-year-old man was driving a 2023 Jeep Wrangler when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered off the freeway, traveled down an embankment, and struck a tree before catching fire. The driver and a 24-year-old female passenger, both from Chula Vista, suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims pending notification of their families.
